~ DIY Yogurt and Fruit For Play Kitchen ~

Care for a bowl of creamy yogurt with fresh pom-pom blue-berries? Or, perhaps peaches would be a preferable topping? ~ Check out our easy and fun DIY “recipe” below to add this sensory food to your play kitchen!

Supplies Used:

To Make:

Place large, white pom-pom(s) into clean yogurt container. We used two, 3″ sized pom-poms, but one will work just as well!

If desired, add “fruit” to yogurt container, and/or top yogurt placed in a bowl with fruit. In the photo above, we used yellow/orange pom-poms to represent peaches (my children love peaches and my Hubby often enjoys consuming peaches and yogurt). To see how we made the berries shown in some of these pictures, click here!

We often like to provide the children with trays (either from cardboard, or small baking trays…whatever is on hand) to help contain the pom-poms a bit and prevent a lot of time spent on gathering up stray pom-poms from every crack and crevice! πŸ˜ŠπŸ‡

And, there you have it; one simple (yet lovely) bowl of yogurt and fruit!😊

Often, I find that providing hand-on-ways for children to help prepare and/or play with food items can help a lot in their willingness to eat said foods. Food is a sensory experience; certain food textures are quite difficult for individuals to tolerate….especially young ones who are unfamiliar with many types and purposes of foods.

Because the texture of pom-poms provide a sensory experience, this causes one’s brain to relax a bit, and can cause the brain to start looking at the foods in a positive light, despite the food having a completely different texture in real life (i.e. yogurt has a very wet consistency in real life, that the pom-poms do not…a scenario that can actually be quite useful!). For example, prior to this activity, my Daughter greatly disliked yogurt. After introducing play yogurt and peaches, half an hour later, she was willing to try (and successfully ate) some real yogurt and peaches! πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

Do you enjoy adding new play foods to your kitchen as much as we do? πŸ‡πŸ₯¬πŸ…Do you think you might make this activity?! πŸ‘Please drop comment below and let us know; we love to hear from you!😊

And, it’s on to our next lesson! I look forward to sharing it with you soon!!! 😊
