DIY Berries are a great addition to the play kitchen; this is a very versatile project and be applied to many different types of berries! For this post, we are sharing Raspberries and Blueberries, but it would be very simple to make any type of berry imaginable. Blackberries and Elderberries are on our future pom-pom berry list!🍇😊

Due to their soft nature, pom-pom berries make for a wonderful sensory experience as well as a fun activity in the play kitchen. 😊

To Make:

  • 0.5″ Soft Pom-Poms in color of choice (we used red for the raspberries and blue for the blueberries)
  • Recycled Berry Container (or other suitable container or carton of choice; these wooden ones are cute, although, for use with very young children, I would probably line the inside and outer-lip with fabric)

Directions:

Simply add desired amount of berries (pom-poms) to the container of choice; play and enjoy! 😊

This truly is a very simple and fun project that brings so much joy to our household!!!

As you can see in this photo from our post on DIY Yogurt for the Play Kitchen, the berries can be combined with other play food items to further enhance kitchen role play and teach many skills.

In the pictures below, my children are practicing transferring the berries (fine motor skills work) as they prepare a play version of one of their favorite food items; fruit with yogurt. (To see our super fun, DIY Yogurt for the play kitchen, click here!)

In order to help keep the pom-poms from going everywhere while they practice this skill, my children often enjoy using sheets or trays with a short lip to help contain stray pom-poms….

On the particular day that these photographs were captured, we used a recycled cardboard “tray” from the base of a case of canned corn to catch stray pom-poms! 😊

As a side note, trays are also a handy resource to use for those times when the kids want to play, but Mama does not have the energy at that particular moment to encourage/help with cleaning up and sorting hundreds of stray pom-poms off the floor!🙈💖

Do you think that you will incorporate pom-pom berries in to your play kitchen, or maybe gift to a loved one for their play kitchen?!

– If so, please comment below and let us know; we Love hearing from you!!! 😊

And, it’s on to our next lesson! I look forward to sharing it with you soon!!! 😊
